River Forest Carbon inc.
Zanzibar has been planting
trees for the past 32 years and over the past 3 years has been developing some
carbon credit funding for forest restoration projects. Our first project is
featured at
http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfp/znd/media-shawnigan.htm .
To better facilitate our carbon offset projects we have formed a joint venture called
River Forest Carbon inc. A description of River Forest Carbon inc. is as follows;
Zanzibar Holdings, B.A. Blackwell & Associates, Carbon Project Solutions and
multiple first nations joint venture partners have developed unique
riparian afforestation projects using using multiple forest offset protocols.
The projects are on private and provincial lands and First Nations
Reserves land (IR) throughout the Cariboo and Central Interior. A thousand
hectares have been identified for afforestation over a 5 year period.
Projects will be undertaken on large stretches of previously forested riparian
areas which are currently non-forested and degraded due to past agricultural
activities. These projects will restore riparian function and benefit many
species, including salmon.
We look at these projects as a first step towards managing larger carbon tenures on under
performing ecosystems. In the short term it will enable much needed funding for
degraded riparian forest that have great social environmental, economic and
first nation’s spiritual significance. In the long term it will represent a
solid investment in an emerging green industry.

In
2011 we developed 5 hectares of initial afforestation trials through out
the Cariboo and Okanagan on various representative sites. In 2012 and 2013 we are
developing additional sites.
Our projects employ a mix of ex ante and ex post strategies with multiple clients into multiple carbon credit markets.
